5th day

A brief look back over the last 5 days:
Weather started warm (highs in the 70’s or so) and has since turned cold (high of high 50’s) though today we expect a high of 67, but right now it’s 35. brrr. Most of the morning we will be occupied with the breakfast routine and the internet. πŸ™‚
We are staying at a friend of Mike’s with some other climbers and are fortunate to have a room to sprawl out and a real bed to sleep in. we did sleep in the van for the first 2 nights, but everyday we come into the main house to eat breakfast and gather the troups before heading down to the cliff. climbing hasn’t been too eventful since I’d not been climbing since the end of August before coming here. hence, my hands were as smooth as a baby’s bottom and that can only mean pain for the frist few days acclimating here. This rock will tear your hands up– it’s very sharp and rough. today, after it warms a bit more, we will head down to the cliff for our (or maybe just my) first day of hard climbing. hopefully, my skin is ready.
for the rest days, i’ve been working on miscellaneous things that we need to finish before we head east, including checking the check engine light for the van and buying some things we’d put off. it was a major city run yesterday and after spending the day in Bend in shops, both mike and i were glad to be back in Terrebonne. We now have
a safe for the van, still needs to be bolted down
seat covers to protect the seat cloths
new radio, simplest radio we could find that had an aux input for our mp3 player
some storage bins where we will organize our stuff a bit better
and, we finally broke down and ordered pre-paid sims so we have a mobile connection πŸ™‚
Another cool item we have that came in the mail the other day is our solar panel! i’m very excited about that. now, we will have power anywhere we are!
We’re here only a few days more and i’m soaking in what luxury living there is, outside of the van, of course. πŸ™‚ The feast we had the other night was accompanied by many of our cliff friend’s and their friends. This weekend, some friends from Seattle and B.C will be down here. I’m looking forward to that!
On another note, I forgot my camera the other day so I don’t have a video of the week, yet, but plan to take something this coming weekend. Meanwhile, here’s a photo of Senja on a climb called Overboard at the Morning Glory Wall at Smith.

    thanks!

I\’m curious about the solar panel as well… is it mounted on the van, or something you store in the van andΒ put upΒ when you need it? Once you\’ve given it a bit of a test run, I\’ll be curious to know how it does for power.
