It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Sirita’s death. As Gary’s colleague and friend, I have grown fond of Sirita through my brief interaction with her and mostly through Gary’s stories and clear love for her. I’m sorry for this loss and at the same time relieved that this child is no longer suffering. In her short life she had experienced too many hardships. http://www.komotv.com/news/story_m.asp?ID=35002
I am reminded of the hardships that face other foster children. And, equally reminded of how our laws and legal system help very little to ease these children’s troubles. It’s not enough just to find good foster parents to take on the challenge of parenting strange and often abused or neglected children for an unknown time. I wish there was something that could be done to help improve the system that moves these children around…something that could prevent them from falling back into the custody of neglectful parents.
As an aside, I would like to take a moment to thank Tara and Greg for being good care providers for my nephew, Dylan. I appreciate their efforts to maintain a nurturing and stable environment for him, which often requires challenging parental rights to the child.
